The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) aims to equip qualified persons for a vocation of teaching and research in theological colleges and universities and for the scholarly enhancement of Christian ministry. Candidates undertake independent research towards a 70,000–100,000 word thesis on a topic approved by the College. The research is conducted under the supervision of a member of faculty of Moore College.

English Competency

Applicants whose first language is not English, or who have not completed their prior degree in theology in English, should provide a certified copy of an IELTS score of at least 7.5 in all categories of the academic test. A TOEFL equivalent of at least 600 is also acceptable.

If applicable, attach (on the last page) certified copies of an IELTS/TOEFL test result to this application.

References

You will need to organise three personal references for this application. Download the form from this link and send it to your referees.

At least one of those references should be from your current minister or denominational leader.
At least one of those references should include evidence that, on graduation, you are likely to have a ministry leading to an increase of ministry in the wider churches that is directly dependent on the benefits that would be gained from the proposed research.

A 2,000 word essay detailing the proposed thesis topic and approach to research. The following headings should be included in the essay:

• Topic

• Statement of possible contribution to the field

• Outline of conceptual framework within which the problem/question is to be addressed

• Proposed research (including key objectives and milestones)

• Methodology and parameters

• Requirements for HREC approval of the proposed research (if any)

• A literature survey or a synopsis of literature which would be the first draft of a chapter of the thesis as

a basis for a preliminary bibliography

• A tentative outline (including a table of contents) of thesis and timeline for completion.
